Spring is here! Time to renew your yard

Spring has finally arrived! Time to gather friends and family and maybe BBQ, or just sit and relax in your backyard. There are little projects you can embark to make your space unique, enjoyable and fantastic! We want to share some ideas to improve the look of your patio or backyard:

Build a Pergola.

We are in Phoenix, AZ, and the sun can sometimes be too bright and too hot, even in spring months. You should use every shade available to avoid UV rays. Of course there are many ways to accomplish this but why not with a gorgeous pergola? We found an easy way to do it in this article. Here are the highlights:

Measure, design and choose your lumber
Dig a hole and install the bases
Assemble the frame, and start drilling
You can make it fancy with lights or cloth

Place a Walkway

Give your patio some unique style! It is very easy to accomplish. Slate, pavers, tile, bricks, you name it! there are infinite options that will apply a touch of beauty to your yard. We found this information on how to do it. You can use:

DYI: The little things matter to our pets.

Most of us share our home with pets; basically they are part of the family. Whether they are dogs, cats, birds, or any other animal, we like to pamper them and open our space for their entertainment and happiness.

This time, we would like to share three little projects you can implement in your house to make your furry (or feathered) one even more happy!

1. DIY Dog Food Station with Storage. (Source).

Big breeds dog owners will know: our furry beasts make a mess when they eat or drink water. Why? it is just their nature! and yet we love them. Right?

This little project will keeps your dog’s water and food dishes from being tossed around, and also, you can store a whole bag of dog food in it. Two functions in one, to reduce the mess in your home.

You can download the free printable plans here, and embark into this task! Or you can also hire us to help you.

2. DIY Cat Scratch board. (Source).

This project is even easier! it will prevent your kitty to scratch your furniture, carpet, rugs, mats, plants, etc.

Just find a piece of carpet, a piece of wood, and the plastic hooks of your preference.

Take a look at this image. In three two steps you will have this ready!: Cut and Glue! let your kitty now scratch.

3. DYI Wine bottle bird feeder. (Source).

If you have the pleasure to have a big yard overlooking trees, then sometimes you would consider sitting outside and relaxing looking at nature. Why not bring the birds to you? Here’s an easy project to feed the birdies.

Just glue the pieces (yes, the supplies list is overwhelming), and fill up the bottle with bird food. Done!

We would like to show you what we have been working recently:

Lebakken house remodel

Talavera just finished a FLOOR to CEILING home remodel. We did a major overhaul on every single area of the house, designed and built custom cabinets for this client. We want to share the results with you!

Take a look:

New Tile.

All new kitchen, with Talavera’s custom cabinets.

Beautiful granite counters

Extensive Drywall work.

Added modern lighting fixtures.

Painted the whole house.

Custom made furniture. We made a bar cabinet for the Lebakken family. Isn’t it gorgeous?

One of the most beautiful features of this project is the custom, hand made, Mexican tile recessed around the fireplace front. Pay attention to the detail of the colored concrete to make it more appealing. Raised Hearth and distressed white oak mantle. This piece gives a focal point to the decoration of the house, making it absolutely unique.

We started the demolition on a Comercial site. Talavera will need to open the space in a few areas and install a supporting beam in to achieve the goal.

Gorgeous remodeled kitchen

We would like to share with you one of our latest remodeling projects. Our clients had a little galley kitchen, sharing the space with a dining room. Basically the space was very small and was closed off the family room.

Then, Talavera Custom was hired to perform the remodeling. We decided to remove the beam that made the space smaller, and completely redesigned the space for a fresher open concept look.

One of the most beautiful details we created for this client was setting the island to look like a separated piece of furniture. It creates an amazing effect! Take a look at the video for more information about this!

We mixed colors, but kept the details so the whole design blends in elegantly and the transitions between spaces are easy on the eye.

Our team, at Talavera Custom was very pleased to help this client’s house, and we were collaborators on make this house feel like a home.

DIY: Remodeling doesn’t have to be expensive

While looking for remodeling ideas, we found this article that gives some pointers on how to have a fresh look in your home with a modest budget.

We will share some of the ideas with you:

1. Fast renovation: Get rid of clutter!

Before making changes in the house, consider rearranging furniture, or decide a better location to store your belongings. This simple idea will help you clear up space, and will definitely make you feel more comfortable with the way your home looks. Most likely it will make your rooms look bigger!

Total budget: Free! You didn’t spend a dime.

2. Small ideas, improved appearance.

Some of the changes that you can apply to your home, without spending a lot of money, will definitely bring a fresh image to your house. Here’s some of the ideas we found helpful:

– Kitchen: Change your cabinet’s hardware. You don’t have to replace the cabinets but you can install new handles and knobs and make them look better. Here we tell you the best way to do this.

Also, staining your cabinets, although it requires a little effort, will make your home have a contemporary look. See this example.
