How ready are you for the upcoming project? Have you considered the concept, materials selection, layout, cost, budget, time line and depending on size and scope of project;  possible temporary living arrangements-temporary housing, vacation, business trip and or limited space and function to stay put in your home while the project is completed?

What can a contractor do to assist you to get ready for your project, from idea to completion? Some are ready to start when they meet their contractor of choice, others are just thinking about a possible future project, and some are in between?

Is contractor licensed, bonded, and insured?

Is contractor experienced, not only in trade, but in the area of work that you are interested in having completed?  Some contractors are more experienced with new construction versus the obstacles of remodeling and restoration.  Some contractors sub-contract most if not all work and may not have the experience in the area that you need for your project.

Ask about a game plan, ordering of materials, deposits, payments, time-line for start and completion.
Get references for projects completed, related to your project and others.

Check BBB rating and testimonials (AZbbb)company name and go to customer reviews. Look to see, not only good comments but if related projects have been completed.

Special orders can be a large part to a project. They can have a huge impact on job cost and or scheduling. Always discuss how these orders may affect your project(s) so proper planning can be made.
